The Solution
Safeguarding our future. Together.
"Microbiological culture of milk samples, collected aseptically from each gland towards the end of lactation, provides the strongest evidence that a quarter or cow is infected in late lactation" DairyNZ Technote 14
Individual Cow Testing
When a cow flares up with mastitis, or suspected mastitis, guessing the cause can lead to wasted treatments and frustration. With the DairySmart Mastitis Test Plate, you can find out exactly what’s going on — fast.
Simply take a clean milk sample, plate it on your Mastitis Test Plate and incubate for 24 hours, before running it through our Jupiter Diagnostic Machine delivering accurate results within the hour*.
Our plates grow the full range of bacteria known to cause mastitis — whether it’s Staph aureus, Strep uberis, coliforms, or other common mastitis bugs — before using our specialised AI to diagnosis the pathogens present – No self-interpretation with DairySmart.
Testing individual cows gives you instant insight into what’s happening in your herd, without waiting days for lab results. This means faster decisions, less antibiotic waste, and healthier cows in the shed
Why DairySmart?
- Fast 24-hour results from simple on-farm testing
- Identify contagious, environmental, and opportunistic mastitis bugs
- Make confident treatment decisions based on clear evidence
Whole herd pre-dry off SmartScreen
SmartScreen – DairySmart’s whole herd testing solution for Dry off and Emergency Screens – Find which cows have what pathogens with SmartScreen. Resulting in a better Dry Off decisions and the ability to protect your clean herd during the lactation.
97% Accuracy | NZ Made | Sold in 16 Countries Globally
SmartScreen uses the latest diagnostic tools to improve efficiency for the end of season screening process whilst reducing contamination using our patented inline sampling tool – installed on each set of cups – these streamline the process of taking clean milk samples efficiently up to 200 samples per hour – a substantial improvement over hand sampling.
We further eliminate data recording errors through our specially developed wand, which takes the cow’s EID and match’s it directly to a blank RFID sample pottle.
When samples reach the lab, the EID number contained on the pottle gets patched across to the agar plate, again eliminating data recording errors. Results are available from SmartScreen within 30 hours of samples being received at the lab*.
Why SmartScreen?
- Finds cows with major pathogens like Staph aureus, Strep uberus, Strep dysgalactiae and more.
- Diagnosis 12+ types of pathogens
- Only treat animals that NEED a treatment e.g. Farmers have reduced DCAT use from 20% to 6% in herds using selective DCAT.
High SCC Cow Screening - Subdetect
Find the subclinical infections, like Staph aureus in your herd with Subdetect – results in just 24 hours. Whether you do it yourself on your own Jupiter, through your vet clinic or get your local DairySmart rep to assist, Subdetect is a great go-to screening tool.
Subdetect plates are designed to identify cows with Staph aureus, and other major pathogens in cows that have been identified through SCC results from herd tests (cows > 200,000 cells/ml) and positive RMT test results.
The Subdetect plate identifies pathogens within 24 hours, allowing for faster data lead decision making on farm, like isolating contagious cows from the milking herd to stop the spread of infection.
Start testing from $14.95 per cow or ask your local vet about testing high SCC cows with Subdetect.
Why Subdetect?
- Identify cows with Staph aureus and remove these from the milking herd to stop spread.
- Identify subclinical infections that are robbing production.
- Confirm diagnosis before treatment – ensuring no unnecessary withholding periods.
- Diagnoses 12+ pathogens and contaminated milk samples (unlike PCR testing and other tests on the market).
Pre-purchase DairySmart SmartScreen
Moving animals between herds and farms introduces a biosecurity risk. Testing using DairySmart helps safeguard herd biosecurity by detecting key pathogens — like Staph aureus, Strep uberis and Prototheca species — before cows enter or leave the property.
Testing before transfer provides assurance and a layer of protection for both buyer and seller. Farms that test regularly and can show recent test results and may also command higher value for stock, as buyers can be more confident in their purchase.
Why Pre-Purchase Screening?
- Detect Staph aureus and other contagious pathogens
- Strengthens farm biosecurity and protects your bottom line
- Gain confidence in knowing what animals your buying
Bulk Milk Tank Analysis
A single bulk tank sample provides a real-time snapshot of a herds health and is often a fantastic starting point for those new to culturing or seeking to find the cause of repeat mastitis.
DairySmart’s Bulk Milk Tank Analysis identifies the presence of key mastitis causing pathogens like Staph aureus, Strep uberis and coliform bacteria that are active within a milking herd.
Early detection supports preventative management and guides targeted control measures before issues escalate.
Why Bulk Milk Tank Analysis?
- Detect Staph aureus and other contagious pathogens in the herd
- Take action to reduce impact of major pathogens
- Increase data-driven decision making
Other Disease Testing
DairySmart offers a range of additional disease and herd health tests to support informed decision-making across your farming system.
All testing is completed at an IANZ-approved laboratory, using the same aseptic milk sample collected for culture, making the process simple, efficient, and reliable.
